At the 2011 conference in New Orleans, new firms and independent consultants rubbed elbows with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Waste Management, PepsiCo, Husky Injection Molding Systems, ISRI, the American Chemistry Council, Custom Polymers and more in the show's sold out exhibit hall. 8 | RR Conference 2011: Can and should plastics be converted to oil?
All municipal recycling programs generate non-recyclables, such as waxed corrugated boxes, motor oil bottles and other types of containers. A number of new firms are showing that one type of residue — mixed non-recyclable plastics — can be converted into oil and other energy products. New research funded by the American Chemistry Council describes how these systems work and who is bringing this technology to market. Kim Holmes of 4R Sustainability will offer a complete technology assessment and discuss the potential policy implications of converting this landfill-bound material into an energy resource.
The Resource Recycling Conference will be held August 17-18 at the JW Marriott in Indianapolis. For more information visit www.rrconference.com or click on the banner below.
