1 | WRAP offers inside take on UK plastics recycling


When the plastics recycling industry looks for leadership, they increasingly turn to Europe. Roger Baynham has 25 years of experience in the British plastics industry having worked with Phillip Tyler Ltd, eventually becoming managing director of Phillip Tyler Polymers LTD. He also serves as the chairman of the British Plastics Federation Recycling Group and as chairman of the Waste & Resources Action Programme Plastics Forum. Baynham was in Atlanta, Georgia recently for the 2012 Plastics Recycling Conference and sat down with Plastics Recycling Update to talk about how plastics are recycled across the pond and what challenges face the industry.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has denied a petition requesting that it prohibit the use of bisphenol A (BPA) in all food packaging.

3 | Deposits on Dutch PET bottles coming to an end


In March, the Netherlands Central Government (Rijksoverheid) announced that Joop Atsma, state secretary of infrastructure and environment (IM), had negotiated an agreement between the Dutch Association of Municipalities (VNG) and packaging producers that will eliminate long-standing deposits on PET bottles.

4 | PetroChem Wire: Recycled Polypropylene prices rise in March


Higher prices were seen for recycled polypropylene in March, although the increases weren't as large as anticipated.

5 | Exports up slightly in January


The volume of plastic scrap exported in January, at 349.84 million pounds, was up slightly at 1.5 percent from its December 2011 figure.
