1 | APR addresses current issues


At its first meeting of 2011 immediately following the Plastics Recycling Conference in New Orleans, the Association of Postconsumer Plastic Recyclers again had record attendance, with more than 100 convening on March 3rd. The group looked at a number of issues at its membership meeting, including California's Rigid Plastic Packaging Regulation (RPPC) update, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's ban on the import of recyclable plastic, reports from the rigids committee and technical committee and the organization's strategy and budget for the coming year.

2 | Panel outlines recycling's role in climate change


The final day of the recently concluded Plastics Recycling Conference in New Orleans opened with a panel examining recycling's broader impact beyond simply materials recovery. On the agenda was the relationship between recycling, product life cycle assessments (LCA) and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and what they mean for businesses.

3 | Oregon senator resists plastic bag pushback


The Oregonian is reporting on a heated exchange between the main sponsor of the state's proposed bag ban and Hilex Poly, one of the country's largest plastic bag manufacturers. Hilex said a bag ban in the state would negatively affect plans to construct a plastic bag recycling facility in Oregon.
