1 | National e-scrap bill talk of the industry

A handful of members of Congress are taking another stab at better controlling the stream of e-scrap being exported out of the U.S. to developing countries. 2 | ESC 2011: Important message for attendees

The E-Scrap Conference team has recently received some disturbing reports that a third party housing company is contacting ESC 2011 attendees with fraudulent information. A firm called Convention Housing Services (CHS) has called several attendees to take reservations for rooms at the conference and is asking for credit card numbers. Convention Housing Services is not affiliated with The E-Scrap Conference.

Attendees making hotel arrangements should contact the Omni Championsgate Orlando directly at (407) 390-6664. The Omni is the host hotel for the conference and plenty of rooms are still available at the E-Scrap Conference rate.

The E-Scrap Conference will be held October 5-6 in Orlando, Florida. More information can be found at www.e-scrapconference.com, or click the banner below.

7 | ESC 2011: The international scene

How do non-North American countries tackle the e-scrap situation? What are the key policy drivers that affect processing? What is the size of the industry, and how might this change over time? We've invited three prominent experts to broaden our understanding of e-scrap recycling outside of North America.

Widely respected journalist Adam Minter will share his experiences visiting several processing facilities in China. He will explore the current regulatory framework for electronics recycling in China, both in terms of import issues as well as environmental operations, and offer a critical assessment of how e-scrap volumes are being handled. Have currency reform, rising labor costs, or growing environmental awareness in China affected electronics recycling? You'll have to attend this presentation to find out.

How can Russia build momentum to secure a safe and prosperous e-scrap future? Senior consultant for the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Valentin Ishchenko, takes a critical look at the dramatic changes in Russia's relationship with electronics as the population enjoys growing prosperity. Valentin will get down to the nitty-gritty about Russia's e-scrap future as he highlights the work he's done with the UNIDO/Russia project, which seeks to analyze the current electronics recycling situation in Russia and identify economical and environmentally safe solutions for reducing untreated/non-recyclable e-waste while promoting the best methods for the collection and recycling.

Lakshmi Raghupathy is the former director of the Ministry of Environment & Forests in India. Her compelling presentation will review India's current e-scrap situation including in- and outflows, who's processing what and how, and governmental involvement. Raghupathy will also offer recommendations and predictions based on her current research. Don't miss her assessment of the unique relationship between formal and informal processors in India.

The E-Scrap Conference will be held October 5-6 in Orlando, Florida. More information can be found at www.e-scrapconference.com.
