4 | E-scrap featured in Recycling Innovators Forum

A new technology proposal from TeTechS, Inc. to sort and characterize plastics from electronic products and automotive scrap is one of the finalists in the upcoming Recycling Innovators Forum.

The basis of the TeTechS, Inc.'s submission to the competition is a patent-pending technology which converts a laser beam into a terahertz waveform and uses terahertz waves to sort light and dark colored plastics. Terahertz is the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum between microwave and infrared. This innovation will create the ability for industry to characterize waste plastics and specifically black plastics coming from e-scrap and ASR. With this ability, effective separation and recovery of the black polymers from these waste streams can be accomplished in an energy efficient method. Recovering and re-using these black polymers will generate sustainable solutions for the use of plastics in our global community.

TeTechS, and the other eight finalists, will present their proposals to a panel of judges at the Recycling Innovators Forum on August 26 at the Louisville Convention Center, the afternoon before the fourth annual Resource Recycling Conference in Louisville, Kentucky. The judges, recognized leaders in recycling and market development, will choose three top finalists who will receive honorariums of $20,000 (first place), $5,000 (second place) and $2,000 (third place). Anyone can attend the Recycling Innovators Forum to learn more about the next big idea in recycling.
