2 | RR Conference 2012: Plastic recycling questions answered


Can bottles really be made back into bottles? Does recycling plastic save energy? Should we leave the caps on? These are just a few of the questions that will be explored by Keefe Harrison, of Resource Recycling Systems, in a presentation on all things plastic recycling. The demand for plastics in the marketplace is every increasing and Harrison will expose how everything you hear about plastics recycling is not necessarily true.

3 | Scrap plastic export volume drops


The volume of plastic scrap exported in April, at 372.86 million pounds, was down 8.1 percent from its March figure. When matched against its April 2011 position, the volume of exports was down, as well, by 3.4 percent.

4 | PetroChem Wire: Recycled PE prices fell sharply in June


Ample supply of prime material contributed to a sharp drop in recycled polyethylene prices in June. Repro and regrind prices fell by as much as 10 cents per pound last month.

5 | APR issues updates for meetings, programs and budgets


More than 130 members of the Association of Postconsumer Plastics Recyclers convened in Portland, Oregon in mid-June to assess current trends and issues in plastic packaging recycling, and to conduct organizational business. In addition to reports from the technical committee and a work group on mixed-rigids packaging, the meeting briefed members in attendance on several other ongoing issues within the organization.
