News from Beyond Plastics, EMR Recycling and more

A new report from Beyond Plastics estimates that New Yorkers could save $1.3 billion over a decade if the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act is adopted, which would set up extended producer responsibility for packaging in that state. 

Camden, New Jersey-based EMR Recycling signed an agreement to invest $6.7 million back into the city after a February fire at its metal recycling facility site. The company also agreed to reduce its footprint in the city, limit accepted materials and increase facility inspections.

Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful opened a third recycling center, in South Beloit, to accept hard-to-recycle items including electronics and textiles. 

The National Recycling Coalition is seeking speakers to present at the Oct. 1-3 National Recycling Congress on topics related to this year’s theme, “Strategies for Circularity,” with proposals due May 15.
