News from California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle), Glacier and more

Stockholm-based health and hygiene products company Essity, which makes recycled paper products, opened a carton recycling line in Hondouville, France. The line can recycle the equivalent of 60% of all collected and sorted food and beverage cartons in France. 

The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) issued a call for applications from groups to become the state’s producer responsibility organization (PRO) under the Plastic Pollution Prevention and Packaging Producer Responsibility law, Senate Bill 54. Applications are due Jan. 1, 2024. 

Recycling robots company Glacier received funding from a nonprofit investor called Elemental Excelerator, which supports climate solutions. San Francisco-based Glacier, which launched with $4.5 million in seed funding in 2022, has deployed a robot at Recology’s Recycle Central MRF in San Francisco. 

The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) selected Circular Action Alliance (CAA) to serve as the producer responsibility organization (PRO) on the State Producer Responsibility Advisory Council established under Senate Bill 222. 

Toronto-based food waste solutions company Minus Global Holdings acquired Future Waste, an organic materials collection, recycling and recovery business in Drumbo, Ontario. 

Rumpke Waste & Recycling partnered with the Hefty ReNew program, providing a recovery operation for households’ hard-to-recycle plastics in the Cincinnati area. 

Restaurant point-of-sale technology supplier Toast released information to help customers reduce food waste.
