Following a six-month search, Amy Lestition Burke will take over as head of the Solid Waste Association of North America in November.
The Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) said in a press release that Lestition Burke will “usher in a new vision of innovation at SWANA.” Her first day will be Nov. 9.
The former executive director, David Biderman, left the role in March after eight years.
In a press release, Lestition Burke called the position an honor and said she is “committed to working closely with SWANA’s Board of Directors, advisory board, committees, volunteers, members, chapters, partners, stakeholders and staff team to build on, accelerate and lead its transformation from solid waste management to resource management.”
Lestition Burke previously served as the executive director of the Special Libraries Association and the Association Media & Publishing Network. She has also served as the vice president of industry solutions for the Consumer Brands Association.
At SWANA, she will oversee the strategic direction of the organization, as well as build partnerships and membership. Art Mercer, SWANA board president, said in the press release that the association “eagerly looks forward to Amy’s leadership and the opportunities it will bring to the association as we advance the solid waste and resource management profession.”
