Closed Loop Partners pledged up to $5 million to support innovations from Resource Recycling Systems’ NextCycle initiative, an accelerator-style program that focuses on creating circular economies.

EREMA broke ground on a new R&D center in Ansfelden, Austria. It is slated to be completed in February 2023. 

Waste diversion and recycling provider LRS acquired Rochester, Minn.-area Sunshine Sanitation. Financial terms were not disclosed. 

The Missouri Recycling Association announced that Angie Powell, current executive director, accepted a position with the Environmental Improvement and Energy Resources Authority (EIERA) Missouri Market Development Program, effective May 1. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration appointed Scott Cassel, CEO and founder of the Product Stewardship Institute, to its Marine Debris Foundation.

The Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative has raised more than $125,000 for Ukraine, with $75,000 coming from donated bottles and cans and the rest matched by OBRC’s BottleDrop Emergency Fund. 

The Sanitation Foundation, official nonprofit arm of the New York City Department of Sanitation, announced the return of “Zero Waste Academy,” a program that introduces participants to waste management. 

TOMRA published a white paper on extended producer responsibility called “EPR Unpacked: A Policy Framework for a Circular Economy.”
