Advanced Drainage Systems will spend $65 million on the construction of a 110,000-square-foot engineering and technology center in Hilliard, Ohio.

The company is the largest plastic recycler in North America and plans to use the 17-acre site for product development, testing operations and manufacturing engineering development, including recycled content, according to a press release.

The facility will have a product development lab that will include areas to prepare product samples for testing, a fabrication lab to develop prototype parts, a lab to analyze structural performance of prototypes under various conditions, a 3D printing lab and a hydraulics lab.

Materials science laboratories with extrusion capabilities will allow Advanced Drainage Systems (ADS) to do performance-based testing and develop product formulations.

Scott Barbour, ADS president and CEO, said in the press release that in the new center “engineers, scientists and technicians will build sustainable solutions that utilize recycled plastics to improve quality of life in communities across North America.”

The facility will receive tax credit assistance from the Ohio Tax Credit Authority. It is expected to open in late 2023 and will aim for a LEED Silver certification, the press release noted.
