When it comes to its moniker, a key plastics recycling group hopes less is more. The Association of Postconsumer Plastic Recyclers is now the Association of Plastic Recyclers.
The change, announced earlier this month at the group’s fall membership meeting in Indianapolis, is aimed at better representing the activity of current and prospective APR members.
“It just seemed like we were limiting ourselves,” Steve Alexander, APR’s executive director, said. “I think it helps to solidify the marketplace out there and eliminate any perceived barriers that exist between the post-industrial and post-consumer arenas.”
“It’s not going to be a huge change in how we operate, but we hope that this brings ourselves and our technical programs to a broader audience,” Alexander said.
Scott Saunders, who serves on APR’s board of directors and is the general manager of KW Plastics Recycling Division, added the “name change was a more accurate reflection of the business activities of our membership.”
“Almost all of the members that recycle, they recycle post-consumer, post-industrial and post-commercial plastic,” Saunders said.
According to Alexander, APR’s technical programs “cut across the board” and provide current members dealing with industrial scrap with valuable insight and support.
