In 2020, nationwide hauler Waste Management collected more scrap electronics and lamps than it had in years, according to the company’s sustainability report.
The Houston-headquartered garbage and recycling giant collected 64 million pounds of e-scrap and lamps last year, up from 18 million pounds in 2019 and 39 million in 2018.
According to the report, the last time it collected a weight approaching last year’s number was in 2017, when it handled nearly 63 million pounds.

In the report, Waste Management noted that CRTs still make up a large percentage of the electronics the company recovers at its landfills, transfer stations and materials recovery facilities (MRFs).
