After a proud Super Bowl victory for the home team, Washington released  Seahawks-inspired e-scrap collection figures for the month of January. While not quite a victory lap, the state says more than 3.3 million pounds of electronics were collected during the month, down from 4 million in January of 2013, but up from January 2012 figures.
Could we help threatened gorillas by recycling old cell phones? Since 2006 the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden has collected  more than 60,000 cell phones in an effort to cut down on the demand for coltan, a metallic ore mined in gorilla habitats and used in many new cell phones.
The Seattle Mariners have been recognized by the Basel Action Network (BAN) as the first professional sports team to earn the group's e-Stewards Enterprise distinction. By becoming an e-Stewards Enterprise, the Mariners pledge to use e-Stewards certified facilities "whenever possible" to ensure the safe handling of end-of-life electronics.
