Community leaders, business owners and concerned citizens met in front of the New York City Hall yesterday to protest the introduction of a proposed ban on expanded polystyrene foam packaging in the city.
Keep America Beautiful and Dr. Pepper Snapple Group have announced the recipients of 710 permanent recycling bins for parks. The bins are the result of 33 grants awarded to state and local governments in 23 states.
The Society of the Plastics Industry has unveiled a new line of clothes made from 50-percent recycled plastic. SPI's resinGEAR is designed for use in uniforms, corporate apparel and promotional gifts, and is also backed by the Canadian Plastics Industry Association, the Plastic Pipe Institute and the Western Plastics Association.
In other SPI news, the organization is surveying companies on their post-industrial scrap plastic management practices. "In general, post-industrial scrap plastics are of high quality, and are a fairly straightforward material to work back into the manufacturing process," says SPI recycling director Kim Holmes.
