Report finds billions in a recycling and reuse economyBy Editorial Staff, Resource Recycling A new report makes the case that significant economic benefits could be reaped by adopting a "circular economy." The report [1] from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, a charitable organization that seeks to integrate recycling and reuse into manufacturing and consumption, found that, globally, businesses and consumers could see benefits as high as $700 billion per year by adopting a circular economy. The economy could also benefit from land productivity and supply chain stability according to the report, which features an analysis from consulting from McKinsey & Co. The report focuses on specific product categories that represent 80 percent of the total consumer goods market by value. It contains information on food, beverages, textiles and packaging, in addition to a series of concrete examples of businesses that derive competitive advantage from making better use of their material flows. |
