Klean Industries, Inc. and the Dow Chemical Company are collaborating [1] on a project to synthesize crude oil from waste plastics bound for the landfill. The three-year partnership will enable the two companies to work together to develop new technologies and facilities.

Film and bag recycling firm Petoskey Plastics has announced expansions at its Hartford City, Indiana and Morristown, Tennessee locations, as well as at its Petoskey, Michigan headquarters. The facility upgrades include the addition of new sorting and processing lines, and are expected to be completed by April.

Society of the Plastics Industry president Bill Carteaux has announced, in a recent email to members, that the organization's board has increased from 24 to 32 voting seats, with all brand owners now enjoying full voting privileges and formal representation. The new Brand Owners Council will join the Equipment Council, Material Suppliers Council and Processors Council.

While we said [2] that the likely successor to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency head Lisa Jackson would be from a state source, we may be off by which state. The Seattle Post-Intelligencer [3] is reporting that President Obama is going to nominate the outgoing Governor of Washington, Chris Gregoire, for the top environmental post in the country, though others say that she'll be tapped to fill the Secretary of the Interior cabinet spot if current Interior Secretary Ken Salazar steps down. Governor Gregoire previously served as director of the Washington Department of Ecology between 1988-1992.
