One in 10 Canadians trash their e-scrap

A new survey [1] from Samsung Canada reveals how residents of the country are handling their used electronics.

According to the survey, an estimated 10 million Canadians were likely to gift new electronics during the holiday season, but one in three respondents said their old electronics are stowed away in their homes. One in 10 respondents admitted to throwing their e-scrap in the trash.

The survey also found that Albertans were the most likely to store their old e-scrap at home, with 45 percent of respondents from the province saying they were likely to tuck their old devices away. Additionally, it found that residents of British Columbia were the most likely to recycle their e-scrap at 63 percent versus 48 percent nationally.

Samsung Canada also used the survey to call attention to its Recycling Direct program that offers more than 40 convenient year-round e-scrap drop-off points across the country.
