The University of Washington has become [1] the first educational institution to become an e-Stewards Enterprise member. The designation is given to companies, governments and other institutions that commit to using electronic recycling companies certified to the e-Stewards Standard.

A teardown of Apple's new iPad Mini reveals more reliance on glues and adhesives that impede repair, according to iFixit [2]. The website gave the iPad Mini a 2 out of 10 for repairability, citing glued screen, logic board and batteries.

Patent No. D669,891 has been awarded to ecoATM, Inc. of San Diego, California, for the design and aesthetic for a type of electronics recycling kiosk.

E-Cycle Washington brought in 4.68 million pounds of covered electronics for recycling in October [3], bringing the year to date total to 36.89 million pounds. Washington has collected 1.68 million more pounds of TVs, computers and monitors than the same October YTD period last year.

Professors Fu Zhao and Carol Handwerker at Purdue University are conducting research on ways to more efficiently recycle LCD displays. The research [4] is funded through a $15,000 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's "People, Prosperity and the Planet" program, and focuses on ways LCD display recycling could become profitable for companies.
