WM workers nabbed tossing recycling into trash

A Florida woman says two Waste Management workers dumped the contents of her recycling bin into a garbage truck.

Anne Ramos of Hillsborough County, Florida found it unusual that her recycling bins were being picked up by a Waste Management truck at about the same time as her garbage, reports www.tbo.com [1]. The unusual situation prompted her to do some surveillance, revealing the activities of the rogue WM workers who were caught on video dumping her recyclables and those of a neighbor into the garbage.

She sent her video to the local NBC affiliate, News Channel 8, which shared it with county officials who determined that WM had violated the terms of its contract and levied a $250 fine against the company.

According to the TV station, WM released a statement on the issue:

"Waste Management has critical standards and expectations of our employees for proper collection. In those circumstances where improper collection occurs, we take disciplinary actions with those involved, and we are working with our entire staff to reinforce the importance of waste stream separation on all of our local routes. Waste Management is committed to managing recycled materials properly and being made aware of situations such as this enables us to make corrective action to ensure it does not continue to happen."
