Austin looks to KAB for recycling boost

The city of Austin, Texas is localizing a national campaign to encourage residents to recycle more material each month.
With a 2015 goal of diverting 50 percent of its municipal solid waste stream, Austin has become the first city to partner with Keep America Beautiful (KAB) and the Ad Council on their "I Want To Be Recycled" push. Drawing on a variety of media, the bilingual public service campaign educates residents on the ways recycling turns used products into new ones.
Adding a local bent, Austin's campaign will have consumers visit austinrecycles.com for tips and information on local recycling opportunities. It will also link to the broader national campaign and its own website, www.iwanttoberecycled.org.
The city is aiming to increase monthly residential recycling by five pounds per person. On average, each of Austin's roughly 840,000 currently recycle about 46 pounds of material per month.
The "I Want To Be Recycled" campaign was launched in 2013 with national support from a laundry-list of producers and industry groups, including the American Chemistry Council, Nestle Waters North America and Waste Management.
