Samsung has issued a formal apology to Chinese buyers of its mobile phones for selling them poorly made units.

A 25-minute expose on the government-owned China Central Television described how seven models of Samsung phones would frequently crash due to faulty memory chips. Before the news report and the ensuing public furor, Samsung charged Chinese customers $100 for the installation of working chips. Samsung now offers free repairs.
