Madison, Wisconsin-based Placon, a manufacturer of thermoformed packaging and recycled PET, has joined Wisconsin's Green Tier program, which encourages increased environmental goal-setting among businesses in the state. As a Tier-1 participant in the initiative, Placon must enact a formal environmental management system and submit annual performance reviews to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

An entry into the 2013 Google Science Fair by a female high-school student in Istanbul presents a method of producing bioplastic from banana peels. The process is notable for its exclusion of petroleum, a key derivative in traditional plastics manufacturing and a hazardous pollutant to the environment.

PVCMed, an alliance of PVC suppliers to the healthcare industry, has endorsed a Swedish strategy to improve medical plastic waste management. The plan will increase the recycling of medical plastic waste, supporting the recycling industry in the process and expanding medical waste management practices.

July marks the one year anniversary of RECYC-QUÉBEC, Quebec's first Extended Producer Responsibility program. In its second year, the program enters phase two of its planned development by adding component products to its list of covered products.
