California-based Green Technology Solutions moved to bolster its e-scrap presence in the U.S. and in Latin America by entering into a partnership with electronics recycling specialist Chilerecicla. The Chilean company has a track record in urban mining, an area GTSO has targeted for growth.

Mobile-device reuse company eRecyclingCorps says it broke an industry record, completing more than 1 million device trade-ins during May of 2013. The company works with device retailers to obtain smartphones and other products when customers upgrade—those devices are then renewed and sold to consumers in developing countries.

San Jose, California-based Reenewal Corporation has filed Patent Application No. 20130156660, describing a method of recovering rare earth metals from waste phosphor powders found in some consumer electronics.

Redemtech UK has rebranded, becoming The ITAD Works and expanding its services to include pre-life and mid-life product services. The company says the expansion aims to provide customers and businesses with greater support and management, while cutting overall costs.
