Worldwide shipments of smartphones outpermormed all other mobile phones for the first time in Q1 2013, according to market research firm IDC. Vendors shipped 216.2 million smartphones in the first quarter of the year, out of 418.6 million total phones shipped. IDC reports the worldwide mobile phone market grew 4 percent in Q1, compared to the same period last year.
