The Coca-Cola Foundation and Keep America Beautiful have announced the recipients of its public bin grant program that helps local governments, colleges, schools and nonprofit organizations advance their recycling efforts.

Now in its eighth year, the Coca-Cola/Keep America Beautiful Recycling Bin Grant Program will distribute over 5,000 recycling bins to winning communities. More than 70 percent of the bins are designed specifically for permanent, ongoing use in public spaces and event with heavy traffic. The remainder will be used by students in college residence halls.

This year, over 1,200 applications were received, a 22 percent increase from 2012. Overall, 479 applications were from local governments, 143 from colleges, 312 from K-12 schools and 193 from nonprofit organizations.

The Coca-Cola/KAB Bin Grant Program awards recycling bins directly to recipients and leverages volume buying discounts. Since 2007, the Bin Grant Program has placed more than 29,000 recycling bins in over 300 communities in 48 states and the District of Columbia. A full list of the spring 2013 Bin Grant recipients and further information about the grant program is available at bingrant.org.
