Largest-ever container ship to soon ply the seas

Largest-ever container ship to soon ply the seas

By Editorial Staff, Resource Recycling

Does your company or community generate about 225,000 tons annually of secondary materials? If so, you could transport a year's worth of recyclables in just one run on a new ship that will soon begin operating.

Danish shipping giant AP Moller Maersk will take possession this spring of a container ship capable of carrying 9,000 40-foot-long containers. Already Maersk and other lines employ ships that can move 8,000 containers on the Europe-to-Far-East trade route. Industry analysts say such vessels can cut per-container shipping costs by about 10 percent.
