Canadian survey presents overview of EPR programs
By Editorial Staff, Resource Recycling
A new survey examines Canada's provincial electronic product stewardship programs, including who is required to do what.
Authored by Sarah Robicheau and Brittany Tipton in the Davis LLP Environmental Law Bulletin, the article discusses how these programs "contain potential liabilities, as well as opportunities for affected individuals and businesses."
It mentions that some provincial electronic waste programs are now overseen by the Electronic Products Recycling Association, a national non-profit organization that seeks to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Canada's electronics stewardship programs. There are also other national product stewardship entities in Canada concerned with related products, such as cell phones and batteries. Nearly every province in Canada has an electronics stewardship program, with the exceptions of its far-north provinces. An overview of each electronics product stewardship program is provided in the report.
